Approximately 130 DCSD staff and members of the Douglas County community took part in the Second Annual Perseverance Golf Tournament at the Lone Tree Golf Course on July 24. The Perseverance Golf Tournament is a fundraiser for the Perseverance Scholarship for DCSD graduates. In addition to raising money, the tournament is a fun way for DCSD staff to connect before the start of the new school year and build relationships with community partners who help make the event possible.
Avid golfers and those who rarely play the game can participate in the scramble-format tournament. In addition to the entry fee, sponsorships and a silent auction provide money to fund the scholarships. Thanks to this year’s tournament more than $13,000 will be added to the Perseverance Scholarship Fund.
Since 1988, the Perseverance Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to nearly 200 deserving high school students throughout Douglas County. Last school year, thirteen $2,000 scholarships were awarded to graduating DCSD seniors. Recipients of these scholarships have overcome significant obstacles during their school years and are determined to further their education after high school.
Financial need and academic merit are criteria used in selecting scholarship recipients. In addition, students who have earned this scholarship have often overcome personal challenges. These students show grit, determination, and resiliency, and need financial assistance to continue their education after graduation from a DCSD school.
